First meeting & Moon Lord
First meeting
Section titled “First meeting”The witch does not show up the moment you beat the Calamitas Clone. The game waits a few seconds and picks a quiet window, no boss on the field and no other scene playing, before she arrives with her portrait and the screen fills with brimstone fire. It will not trigger during Boss Rush.
The first meeting has two versions. With the legendary Halibut at your side, Halibut recognizes the witch and talks back to her. On your own, the witch keeps her name hidden the whole time and speaks as ???. The two versions read differently, but both close on the same question: “Well… what is your choice?”
Trigger conditions
Section titled “Trigger conditions”- This first meeting has not played yet.
- World progress does not yet record the Brimstone Witch as defeated.
- If you are holding the legendary Halibut, claim the Calamitas Clone gift first so it does not overlap with Halibut’s own gift scene.
- No Brimstone Witch is currently on the field.
Dialogue: with Halibut
Section titled “Dialogue: with Halibut”| Speaker | Line |
|---|---|
| ??? | I hadn’t expected you to kill my ‘sister’ so soon. |
| ??? | You are growing… faster than anticipated. |
| Halibut | I recognize you… You’re… |
| Halibut | The Brimstone Witch?! The one who incinerated half the ocean?! |
| Brimstone Witch | Hah?! Heh… To think someone… or somefish… actually recognizes me. You are amusing, I’ll give you that. |
| Halibut | …But why are you alive? I distinctly remember the Brimstone Witch died… last century. |
| Brimstone Witch | An interesting fish, indeed. My consciousness was forged into the brimstone flame long ago. This body… it is merely a corpse, puppeteered by the flames. |
| Halibut | …A living mind in an inhuman vessel, bound to the world by a medium… You’ve become… an aberration?! |
| Brimstone Witch | Your comprehension is too limited. You could not possibly understand my state of being. |
| Brimstone Witch | Besides, that is not why I am here… |
Dialogue: without Halibut
Section titled “Dialogue: without Halibut”| Speaker | Line |
|---|---|
| ??? | You killed my ‘sister’ far sooner than I expected. And you came alone? |
| ??? | You are growing stronger than I anticipated. |
| ??? | You ask why I am still alive? It seems you have begun to touch upon truths you were not meant to know. |
| ??? | My consciousness was forged into the brimstone flame long ago. This body… is merely a corpse puppeteered by the flames. |
| ??? | But it is pointless. Your comprehension is too limited to grasp my state of being. |
| ??? | Of course, I did not reveal myself merely to explain these trivialities. |
The choice
Section titled “The choice”“Well… what is your choice?”
| Option | Result |
|---|---|
| (Draw weapon) | “Then let me measure your worth.” → summons the Brimstone Witch; recorded as chose to fight |
| (Remain silent) | ”…Pathetic. A ‘small fry’, indeed. Very well, take this as a greeting gift. We will meet again.” → Ashes of Calamity ×999; no summon |
First fight: win and loss endings
Section titled “First fight: win and loss endings”Drawing your weapon starts the fight at once, and either outcome has its own closing scene.
If you lose
Section titled “If you lose”If any player goes down during the fight, the witch appears to sneer for a moment and then leaves. This ending repeats: a few seconds after each wipe she comes back and says her piece again, so you can keep trying. With the legendary Halibut along, two extra Halibut lines follow, where she weighs whether “opening all nine eyes” could win and then only sighs.

|---|---|
| Brimstone Witch | You shatter at a touch. Are you made of paper? |
| Brimstone Witch | I thought I’d found a toy that would last a bit longer in the fire. |
| Brimstone Witch | I overestimated you. Your current caliber… you aren’t even worthy of being my warm-up. |
| Brimstone Witch | Come back when you are strong enough to be worthy of my gaze. |
| Brimstone Witch | Although… you do have some courage. |
| Brimstone Witch | A mortal who dares to look me in the eye, let alone draw a blade… you are the first. |
| Brimstone Witch | (Vanishes in a whirlwind of flame) |
| Halibut | If I’d opened the ninth eye, consequences be damned… I should have had a chance. If it came to that… |
| Halibut | Sigh… |
If you win (before Moon Lord)
Section titled “If you win (before Moon Lord)”Win the first fight while Moon Lord is still undefeated and the witch, badly rattled, throws out a threat and flees, dropping Ashes of Calamity ×999. With Halibut along, Halibut adds one line: ”…She fled.”
| Speaker | Line |
|---|---|
| Brimstone Witch | What… How is this possible! |
| Brimstone Witch | You… You defeated me?! |
| Brimstone Witch | Impossible… This is absolutely impossible… |
| Brimstone Witch | I have already surpassed the limits of a Terrarian… |
| Brimstone Witch | …It seems I truly underestimated you. |
| Brimstone Witch | But this is not the end. I will return. |
| Brimstone Witch | Next time… Next time, I will not be so careless! |
| Halibut | …She fled. |
| Reward | Ashes of Calamity ×999 |
Once Moon Lord has been defeated, this flee scene no longer plays and the story moves to the commission chain.
Moon Lord chapter
Section titled “Moon Lord chapter”After you choose to fight, the story stalls on the Moon Lord wall. Beat Moon Lord and the witch comes back, this time not to fight but to give you something and hand out work.
Trigger
Section titled “Trigger”- The first meeting has already played.
- You drew a weapon at the first meeting.
- Moon Lord is defeated.
- While holding the legendary Halibut, the Moon Lord gift must already be claimed.
Dialogue
Section titled “Dialogue”The witch first mocks “that thing” (Moon Lord) for how far it has fallen, asks whether you know what the underground looks like now, and only then gets to the point. With Halibut along, Halibut presses her on why she is here. Mid-speech she pushes a weapon into your hands, granting Pallbearer ×1.
| Speaker | Line |
|---|---|
| Brimstone Witch | Hahaha… |
| Brimstone Witch | So that’s how far he’s fallen. |
| Brimstone Witch | Do you have any idea what the underground looks like right now? |
| Halibut | …So, why are you here this time? |
| Brimstone Witch | A little toy for you. And a small commission. |
| Brimstone Witch | A small crossbow. I need you to take it and kill that… thing… pathetically sucking up geothermal energy down there. And remember, you must use this crossbow. |
| Reward | Pallbearer ×1 |
| Brimstone Witch | If you succeed, our… ‘partnership’… can continue. |
Once you have the Pallbearer, Commission ① registers in the commission tracker. The rest of the chain is on Three hunt commissions.
Easter egg: legendary Halibut lines
Section titled “Easter egg: legendary Halibut lines”This shares the same slot as the “win before Moon Lord” ending, but has stricter requirements, meant for holders of the legendary Halibut:
- Holding the legendary Halibut
- The Halibut sea domain is at layer 10
- Defeat the Brimstone Witch
The witch concedes first, then Halibut throws her own “your comprehension is too low” line right back at her and mocks her self-declared godhood. This is purely extra dialogue for legendary weapon holders and does not affect the commissions.

| Brimstone Witch | To think you’ve already reached this level… Heh. I was outmatched. |
| Brimstone Witch | But you are not the strongest. You may be good, but he is certainly no worse than you. |
| Brimstone Witch | Yharim has already walked to the end of that path. He has reached the pinnacle of what a Terrarian can be. No one is stronger. |
| Brimstone Witch | A pity you two cannot meet… |
| Halibut | Your level of comprehension is too low. You will never understand my state. |
| Brimstone Witch | …My level of comprehension is too low? |
| Brimstone Witch | (I’ve lived this long, and this is the first time anyone’s told me my ‘level’ is low.) |
| Halibut | I am the sole being ‘birthed’ by an era. Since I dared to cast off my Terrarian identity and declare myself a god, I am naturally omnipotent. |
| Halibut | You say Yharim can ‘weigh’ me? You’d need to bring me Xeroc. |
| Brimstone Witch | … |
