It uses the vanilla day and night cycle. At night, ink damage dealt is multiplied by 1.15. By day, by 0.95. The swap is instant at the day-night line.
At night, while a puddle still has about 0.7 seconds or more left, a miasma column rises about every 0.9 seconds. Each column lasts 2.5 seconds and ticks every 0.5 seconds at 86% of puddle damage. Day does not raise columns.
No puddle, no columns. Puddle damage itself is drop damage times 0.35, then any other puddle multipliers.
