Land at least one drop on each of 7 beats in a row, and beat 8 multiplies every drop by 3. Miss a beat and the count resets. After the heavy beat, rain skips one full beat. Only rim rain counts. Pour scatter is not a beat. A new rain clears the combo.
A miss is scored when the next beat fires, looking at the previous beat. Stray drops on the skipped beat have their damage forced to 0.
