Origin

The Noh Hannya mask captures the moment a woman's grief turns human features into a demon. Carved on the blade, it signifies that when cornered at death's door, one's nature inverts into an asura of wrath

Hannya is a horimono carving on the blade face. When current life divided by max life is 35% or below, the face flips to demon at once. Climbing back above that line flips to the woman face. The flip plays a short scene and clears the hit count. The check uses the life ratio, not kills.

While the demon face is up, hits from Onikiri itself are ×1.20 on the hit side, not the tooltip. Combo, Zanshin, Annihilating Flash, Finale cuts, and dash ink brands that count as direct blade hits all take this 20%, and they count for lifesteal and the bite. Each direct blade hit heals 0.5% of max life, at least 1. Full life heals nothing. Every 3 hits raise a demon-face bite for 50% of a current blade hit. Incoming damage while the demon face is up is ×1.15, 15% more.

While the woman face is up, tooltip damage is ×0.96, 4% less. That 4% stays on the tooltip after the flip. After the flip the math is: tooltip still −4%, then the hit ×1.20, for about 15% more blade damage, plus lifesteal and the bite, with incoming damage still +15%. The woman face has no lifesteal, no bite, and no extra incoming damage.

While holding Onikiri, cut a boss-tier foe with own life below 10%. That is the ownership gate. Combat flips at 35%. The two lines are not the same.
