After the matching boss, Himura Mayo appears again and hands over a rubbing. Boss: Polterghast. Himura Mayo
The four blocks below are the rubbing text.
Rubbing
Swinging to the tidal rhythm restores vigor on hit, on-tide Zanshin strikes harder; off-beat combos slightly weakened
Power
"Tide-Beat": a tide marker pulses on a 0.8s cycle below the vigor bar, the 0.2s peak being the on-tide window Basic combos swung within the on-tide window restore 3 extra vigor on first hit; on-tide Zanshin strikes deal +8% damage
Burden
Basic combos swung off-beat deal 3% reduced damage (judged at the moment the swing key is pressed, not on hit)
Origin
The smith grew up by the sea, grinding blades to the rhythm of swelling tides. Tides rise and fall as human breath ebbs and flows; striking on the surge, the sea returns vigor
A tide of about 0.8 seconds runs under the vigor bar. About 0.2 seconds near the peak is the match window. Whether a swing matches is decided at the press, not at the hit.
A combo started on the tide returns 5 vigor on each beat’s first hit. 2 of that is the combo’s normal grant. The other 3 is the tide bonus. The rubbing only names that 3. A second hit on the same beat adds nothing.
A Zanshin started on the tide is ×1.08. Zanshin does not take the 3 vigor, or the 5. An off-beat combo’s first hit is ×0.97. An off-beat Zanshin skips that 3% and simply misses the 8%.
Annihilating Flash and Finale do not use either grant. A flash-step pierce does not either. The tide never stops. The window is about a quarter of each cycle.
